December 2020

Principal’s Message

As I reflect back to previous December messages and newsletters, it is again apparent that we are living in very different times right now.  Although we usually look forward to coming together as a school community for concerts and other special events, this year we will celebrate in different ways as we all do our part to flatten the curve.  This year we will be posting a virtual “concert” to our private school Youtube Channel for you to watch from home.  Each class will contribute a reading or art work or some dramatic performance. We have our December spirit days linked to our Giving Tuesdays and we will also do a window decorating activity so classes can see each other's windows from outside the building. Please stay safe and take time to enjoy the comforts of home, the moments together and the magic of the holiday season with your family.

Compassion

Our virtue for December is Compassion. Compassion is showing care and consideration.  It is being kind and forgiving to someone who has hurt you and it is helping someone, even if you do not know them.  At this time of year, it is important to talk to your children about having compassion for others.  Children need to recognize that compassion means helping someone who is being teased on the yard, sharing a compliment or donating to those in need.  Saying a kind word to someone who is having a bad day can make a world of difference to that person.  Encourage compassion.  Show you care.

This year for December,  Brookside Students and Staff will be participating in Giving Tuesdays donating needed items to St. Vincent de Paul in Goderich. Your donations are greatly appreciated!

Extra Masks

Winter is proving to be another new COVID PPE reality for us to navigate.  If possible, please provide your child with extra masks during the winter months.  Every child is different, but we would recommend sending 3-4 extra masks each day as the colder weather makes the masks damp and uncomfortable when coming in from outside. Thank you for your help.

Winter Break

Monday December 21 - January 1, 2021. First day back to school is Monday, January 4, 2021.

As reminders please have the following for your students:

  • Indoor Shoes
  • Water Bottle
  • Label hats, mitts and other belongings with the restrictions we do not have a lost and found.

Before and After School Program 2021-2022 Survey

Avon Maitland District School Board is committed to helping make the school day as seamless as possible for families. To help us determine the potential need for Before and After Programs, we ask parents/guardians to share their tentative childcare needs for September of the next school year (2021) by completing an online survey no later than Monday December 14th. The Survey link is on the AMDSB website:

www.amdsb.ca (Our Programs/Elementary/Before and After School Program) Or access it here http://bit.ly/BandAsurvey   Should you require a paper copy, please contact the school. We appreciate your assistance.  By completing the survey, this information will help us determine the feasibility of offering before and after school programs at AMDSB school locations.
